Detox Poker Series: James Wheatley Wins Main Event & Overall Leaderboard
When play got down to heads-up, there were several discussions between Brian Watkins and James Wheatley about a deal, but before they could make one, it all ended very quickly. Wheatley limped from the button with [4c][6s] and Watson checked, bringing them to a flop of [6d][8s][8h]. Watson checked, Wheatley bet 150,000 and Watson called, with the turn coming down with the [8d]. Watson moved all-in and Wheatley though it over for a minute or so, eventually calling. Watson had just [Jh][9d], and the river brought no help, securing both the title and the player of the series award for Wheatley.
It was his second title this series, having won the 7-Game Event earlier. He picked up $38,111 after the deal, while Watson walked away with $32,994 for his second place finish.
That's all for us here at the Detox Poker Series. For Matt Savage, Rob, Jay, and the entire staff, thank you for following us here on the blog and we hope you'll stay tuned as there's another Savage Tournament right around the corner.
There will be one more update, as Marco from QuadJacks.com chatted with James Wheatley shortly after his victory.

$200,000 Guaranteed Main Event - Final 18 Set For Sunday; Heider Bubbles
It's never fun to be the bubble boy, but especially the way it happened for Mitchel Heider of Henderson, Nevada. He was ahead preflop, fell behind on the flop, regained the lead on the turn, and lost it on the river. The hand will be posted shortly here on DetoxPoker.com. Stay tuned for that & final chip counts & seating assignments for Sunday Afternoon.
Tune in at 3pm for all of the action, streamed live.
Main Event Day 1B - Alex Outhred Eliminated in 11th
After losing most of his chips in a coinflip with pocket sevens against [Ah][8h], he got the remainder of them in on another flip, with [Ad][Kd] against pocket fours, but the board provided him no relief.
He will receive $1,200 for his finish.
Blinds are 4,000/8,000/1,000, and we have combined to one 10-handed final table. There will be one more player eliminated tonight and then play will be over for the night.
Main Event Day 1B - David Tuthill Out in 12th Place
David Tuthill three-bet his opponent from the button preflop with ace-seven, and his opponent in the cutoff called. The flop came king-high, and Tuthill moved all-in after his opponent checked, eventually calling with king-queen. There was no ace for Tuthill, of St. Petersburg, Florida, and he finished 12th for $1,200.
Blinds are now 4,000/8,000/1,000, with an average stack of 207,275.
Main Event Day 1B - 12 Left; Mezy, Essak, Dicarlo, Berg Out
We are now down to 12 players, being played six-handed at each table. When we get down to 10 we will combine to one table and eliminate one more player to get down to nine.
The following players each made $1,200:
13th: Ramsey Mezy, Las Vegas, Nevada
14th: Vance Essak, Las Vegas, Nevada
15th: Salvatore Dicarlo, Las Vegas, Nevada
16th: Lawrence Berg, Las Vegas, Nevada
Ramsey Mezy joins Chris Griswold in cashing in this event twice, with a final table eluding each of them.
16 Left; Kabilio, Block Eliminated, Players on Break
We are now down to just 16 players. Each of these players earned $1,200:
17th: Michael Kabilio, Las Vegas, Nevada
18th: Eric Block, Las Vegas, Nevada
Players just went on break. When they return they will be playing 3,000/6,000/1,000. The average stack is 142,500.
Main Event Day 1B - 18 Left; Cooper, Gracie, Griswold, Wojcik, Maven Hit the Rail
We are now down to 18 players and two tables. Each of these players earned $800:
19th: David "The Maven" , Fort Worth, Texas
20th: Daniel Wojcik, Newark, New Jersey
21st: Chris Griswold, Las Vegas, Nevada
22nd: Rob Gracie, Las Vegas, Nevada
23rd: Jamie Cooper, Las Vegas, Nevada
Griswold is the only player to cash on both Day 1A and Day 1B. Everyone else from here on out is guaranteed $1,200. They are now playing 2,500/5,000/500 and the average stack is 126,667.
Main Event Day 1B - 23 Left; Rische, Zhang, Akutagawa, Sluzinksi Hit the Rail
We've had four eliminations since the bubble burst. Each of these players will receive $800:
24th: Jeff Sluzinksi, Las Vegas, Nevada
25th: Daryl Akutagawa, Pasadena, California
26th: Kevin Zhang, Las Vegas, Nevada
27th: Keith Rische, Henderson, Nevada
Main Event Day 1B - Bubble has Burst, Outhred Causes Technical Difficulties
The bubble was finally burst when a player moved all-in for 8,500 with [Ad][Jd] and was called by Ylon Schwartz in the big blind with [Ac][3d]. A three on the flop gave Schwartz the pot and 26 new friends.
We would have video coverage of this hand, but Alex Outhred bumped our monopod and disrupted the coverage, so you have him to blame.
(Full disclosure, he was very apologetic about the incident, and he couldn't be a nicer guy).
Main Event Day 1B: On the Bubble
We are down to 28 players, and the bubble has lasted at least 10 hands thus far.
Main Event Day 1B - On Break, 30 Left, Introducing 5K Chips
The final 30 players are on break as the 100 chips are raced off. A new 5,000 chip is also being introduced into play.
When they come back from break they will be playing 1,500/3,000/500.

When we lose those last nine players, we will redraw seats for the final three tables.
Blinds are now 1,000/2,000/300, and the average stack is 63,333.

Day 1A ended with a 1,000 Ante, 4,000-8,000 Blinds with 34:04 Remaining |
Main Event Day 1A - Final 9 Set; Hollander Out in 11th, McBrien Out in 10th
We had no necessity for a ten-handed final table, because after the elimination of Jesse Hollander in 11th, a simultaneous hand had Joe Brandenburg raising in early position, with David McBrien moving all-in on a short stack in the cutoff.
Anthony Yeh, the man who busted the money bubble, was at it again, as he moved all-in over the top from the blinds, sending Brandenburg deep into the tank, from which he eventually emerged with a fold of pocket queens. He was right, as Yeh had pocket aces, and McBrien could only muster pocket sevens. There was no help from the board, and so Yeh busted both the money bubble and the final nine bubble on Day 1A.
Hollander, of Las Vegas, and McBrien of Queensland, Australia each received $1,200 for their efforts.
Chip counts for the final nine are forthcoming, and we have a couple of repeat final tablists in James Wheatley and Bona Sar, who have each had very successful series' at Detox. Getty Mattingsley is also one of the nine.
Main Event Day 1A - Farshid Barghisavar Out in 13th, Jeff White Out in 12th
Farshid Barghisavar of Las Vegas, Nevada was our 13th place finisher, and Jeffrey White of Lockport, NY was right behind him in 12th.
With one more elimination we will be down to an unofficial final table of 10, with nine of those players moving on to play on Sunday.
Main Event Day 1A - Chris Griswold Out in 14th, Blinds are Up
Chris Griswold was very close to an incredible birthday present, but his fun was spoiled just five spots from the final nine on Day 1A.
He was involved in a coinflip situation with pocket tens against ace-queen offsuit, and the board was all safe cards for Griswold until the cruel queen hit the river, sending him home in 14th place.
We'd like to send our condolonces, and Happy Birthday, Chris!
The players just returned from a short break to blinds of 3,000/6,000/1,000. The average stack is now 157,692.
Main Event Day 1A - Ky Skyles Eliminated in 15th Place
Ky Skyles was our 15th place finisher on Day 1A.
Main Event Day 1A - Kenneth Jacobs Eliminated in 16th
Kenneth Jacobs of Parker, Colorado was just eliminated in 16th place for $1,200.
Main Event Day 1A - William Croft Out in 17th, Blinds are Up
